About Me

Hi, my name is Sara and I am the owner of FerretTails. You can also find FerretTails on Etsy, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. I am the proud fur mama to 7 ferrets, 1 dog, 5 cats and several fish.

In 2018, right before I graduated college, I decided to add ferrets to my household. I had owned a ferret when I was much younger and I always knew I wanted to own ferrets again. Like other pet owners, I wanted my ferrets to have the best, a big cage, soft cute bedding, a big space to play, a good vet and lots of love.

I bought a Midwest Double Critter Nation (I recommend getting the Midwest Ferret Nation for ferrets, but when I got my cage there was a 3 week wait on the ferret nation and I did not want to wait that long, so I went ahead and bought the critter nation). I also got them cute fleece cage liners, but I quickly realized I would need more than one set.

A family friend had gifted me a sewing machine that she never used, it had been sitting in my closet for well over a year. On a whim, I pulled it out, but I had no idea how to use it. So, I began watching beginner sewing tutorials on YouTube and eventually I was able to make a set of cage liners for my ferrets. I also made matching hammocks, sleep sacks, tunnels and anything else I could learn to make.

In 2020, I started a YouTube channel called FerretTails, where I make DIY sewing tutorial, ferret care videos and so much more. Six months after starting on YouTube, I opened an Etsy Shop, also called FerretTails. I sell cage liners, pet beds, hammocks, tunnels, snuggle sacks and a few other pet items.

Now, I want to expand my shop and my connection with the ferret/pet community by creating this website. The site will not only offer pet bedding, it will have blog post, sewing tips and tricks and tutorials like the ones I share on my YouTube channel.

I hope you will join me on this journey.

Sara McLean
